Make a Paper Chopstick Rest

Never lay your disposable chopsticks on a tabletop or counter again after learning this super simple trick!

In the most formal of table settings, utensils and provisions for every need are always provided. In a dine out sushi setting, the atmosphere is often very relaxed. A simple chopstick rest designed to keep the end of your chopsticks off the tabletop is often seen as an unnecessary luxury and the diner is then faced with the tough decision of chopstick placement. Should the tips rest on the edge of the plate? Or should the chopsticks lay across the soy dish?

When provided with disposable chopsticks that come in paper sleeves, the answer is simple – make your own paper chopstick rest.

Here’s how:

Step 1. Remove your chopsticks from the paper sleeve, break apart and set aside.

Step 2. Fold the paper sleeve in half horizontally, creasing well after the fold is made.

Step 3. Open the fold and starting with one of the ends of the sleeve, fold the edge to meet the first center fold. Repeat with the other end.

Step 4. Continue folding each folded edge towards the first center fold until you can no longer make folds.

Step 5. Place folded sleeve on the table so the folded edges are on the table. Balance your chopsticks on the folded sleeve so that the tips rest gently on top and the larger ends rest on the table. Use as needed during your meal.
